Collaboration launched with German scientific journal on climate, energy and health
HEAL has the exciting opportunity to contribute to a regular section of the German-language Journal of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. HEAL’s first contribution was in the August issue with a joint editorial on coal and health.
The journal is linked to the German Society for Hygiene, Environment and Public Health Sciences (GHUP). In October 2014, HEAL and GHUP organised a workshop on energy and health together with the German Medical Association. The journal has six issues per year and is mainly targeted at a German speaking audience, with a focus on environmental and occupational health, toxicology, hygiene and epidemiology. Articles in German and English language are accepted.
The August issue introduced the new collaboration for the section on climate, energy and health with an editorial discussion on the recent decision of the German government to retire a number of coal-fired power plants, instead of introducing a ‘climate levy’ for coal plant operators (p. 165-166). HEAL further contributed with a German translation of the Executive Summary of a recent special report on climate change in The Lancet (p. 167 - 169), as well as an article on the upcoming training module on energy and health, which was developed on the basis of the presentations made at the October 2014 workshop (p. 170).
