EUPHA Workshop on coal and health with public health specialists
HEAL will actively participate at the 8th European Public Health (EPH) Conference from 14-17 October 2015, with a workshop on the external health costs of coal power generation and prevention opportunities.
The EPH Conference aims to contribute to the improvement of public health in Europe by offering a means for exchanging information and a platform for debate to researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in the field of public health and health services research as well as public health training and education in Europe. It will be held in conjunction with the 48th National Congress of the Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health, making it the largest public health event in Europe.
HEAL is organising a workshop focusing on the external health costs of coal power generation across Europe, in key countries where HEAL works, including Poland, Germany, Turkey, the UK and the Balkans. HEAL’s President Dr. Peter Van den Hazel (INCHES, Netherlands) will open the session with new science on air pollution and children’s health. He will also speak in at a different session on environmental factors and public mental health, focusing specifically on environmental exposures and neurodevelopment.
HEAL’s Project Coordinator on Energy and Health for South & Central East European countries, Vlatka Matkovic Puljic, will also speak at a different session highlighting the role of the Energy Community Treaty in protecting public health.
