French agricultural engineering students learn about HEAL’s work
Last month, HEAL was invited to present its work to a group of final year agricultural engineering students from Rennes, France. The students were particularly interested in the pesticides and chemicals work by HEAL and the relationship with the EU Institutions.
The French students who are currently completing their Masters degree in Agriculture, Maritime and Environmental policies and markets were on a study trip to Brussels to find out more about the EU Institutions and relationship between them and different organisations dealing mainly with agriculture, food and the environment.
During an interactive session, HEAL presented its missions, objectives, activities, as well as its network and target audiences. The main points dealt with the working relationship with the EU especially regarding the topics of pesticides, chemicals including EDCs. HEAL informed the students of activities in 2014 including Pesticides Action Week where HEAL plans to focus its work on farmers as victims of pesticide harm.
The students showed a positive interest in HEAL’s work and have a better understanding of NGOs’ advocacy work on health and environmental issues towards the EU decision making process.
HEAL believes that such meetings with students can help raise awareness amongst current and future advocates for better public health.
They particularly liked our Comic strip ’Choosing our Future’, which was launched with French HEAL member Générations Future as a virtual holiday gift in 2008.
