HEAL engages with German science journalists at annual forum
HEAL’s German Chemicals Health Monitor project launched new materials in German and hosted a stand at the Wissenswerte 2013 annual conference of science journalists in Bremen, Germany.
In collaboration with HEAL member, European Academy of Environmental Medicine (EUROPAEM), HEAL participated in the “Wissenswerte 2013” annual conference. The conference provides a forum for exchange between the journalists, research institutes, organisations and stakeholders interested in science communication and business. Medical and environmental journalists were well represented among the 350 participants.
A special time-slot “Meet the Experts” offered the opportunity for direct exchange between the exhibitors and the media. This was a great chance for HEAL to explain its work in depth and having a Brussels based organised ready to answer questions about working with the EU Institutions was much appreciated and well received.
The panel discussions and workshops during the two day conference were a good opportunity to learn about hazardous chemicals, EDCs and other topics of interest to the science journalists such as REACH. Discussions ranged from climate change to animal testing, from science communication on the web to attacks against investigative journalists – therefore reflecting the media discourse in fields essential to HEAL’s work.
This conference was a good stepping stone for HEAL to continue cooperation with science journalists, medical and research institutions as well as looking for future opportunities to collaborate with our German members again. A special thanks to the publishers of “Umwelt.medizin.gesellschaft” who offered HEAL a stall at the conference. HEAL’s materials and publications in German were well received during the two days.
