Join HEAL in wishing TEDX a happy 10th anniversary
TEDX founder Theo Colborn who has become the President Emeritus of TEDX, celebrated its 10th anniversary with Executive Director Carol Kwiatkowski this year. Clearly, the small team at TEDX continues to be an organisation that can “change the world”, as HEAL noted in its celebratory tribute.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” The Endocrine Disruption Exchange, or TEDX, exemplifies the well-known quote from a cultural anthropologist”, according to Lisette van Vliet in her 10th anniversary tribute on behalf of HEAL.
But the work of its founder, Theo Colborn goes back much further than the ten years of TEDX. Dr Colborn was joint author of “Our Stolen Future” which, when published in 1996, brought world-wide attention to scientific discoveries about endocrine disruption for the first time. It described how common contaminants could interfere with the natural signals controlling the development of the fetus.
On the occasion of TEDX’s 10th birthday, Executive Director Carol Kwiatkowski announced the transition of Theo Colborn to President Emeritus and heralded the arrival of new TEDX tools.
First is the re-launch of Critical Windows of Development, a key TEDX tool, which now offers a pop-up display of research papers linking chemical exposure to different prenatal periods. The tool is a timeline of how the human body develops in the womb, with animal research showing when low-dose exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals results in altered health outcomes.
Second, the invaluable TEDX List of Potential EDs is now searchable with chemical uses and sources. It is also featured on HEAL website. Third, a video called “What is The Fossil Fuel Connection?” Click here to watch the trailer featuring Theo Colborn. Finally, a new peer reviewed paper from TEDX on Bisphenol A, entitled BPA and Human Health is now available.
