AIM – Position on health promotion and disease prevention
The Association of European and world-wide not-for-profit healthcare payers (AIM) has adopted a Position on health promotion and disease prevention. They are sending the EU a clear signal of the influence they can play on improving the health of European citizens and helping to ensure the sustainability healthcare systems’ by putting more efforts and resources on prevention.
The burden of chronic and disabling diseases and conditions constitutes a serious challenge to health systems. They represent a growing threat and an underestimated cause of poverty, which in turn hampers economic development in many nations. Common risk factors are globally the root of more than 75 percent of cardiovascular diseases. These can be avoided through better health promotion and disease prevention and legislation. Committing to improve indoor and outdoor air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions are among the most cost-effective prevention measures to improve health.
AIM’s position notably encourages the EU Commission to promote and incentivise clean air across all policies and to set more ambitious and binding commitments for emission reductions.
