AIM: Regret about delay of vote of Tobacco Products Directive in the EP
In July, the European Parliament’s Committee for Health and Consumer Affairs (ENVI) adopted a report drafted by MEP Linda Mc Avan with measures protecting potential smokers and enhancing public health.
The most important points in this report include bigger warnings of tobacco packaging, the respect of an age limit for cross-border sales as well as the ban of flavourings, better ingredients regulation and tighter measures against illicit trade.
The vote on tobacco products directive is further delayed, now being postponed by one month to 8 October 2013. The political groups EPP, ALDE, ECR and EFD voted to postpone the vote. AIM members call on MEPs and the Council to stop further delays of this crucial vote.
