ELF - Successful first month for the Healthy Lungs for Life initiative
Healthy Lungs for Life, an initiative led by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Lung Foundation (ELF), has had a successful first month since its launch at the ERS International Congress in Munich, with a range of events, projects and promotional activities taking place across the globe.
The campaign with this year’s theme being ‘breathe clean air’, aims to raise awareness of lung health among healthcare professionals, scientists, primary care, patients, policy makers and the public.
During the International Congress, members of the public had the unique opportunity to speak directly with health experts and scientists about clean air and the damage air pollution causes to our bodies at two patient information evenings.
In collaboration with the biannual Mini Munich project, involving over 3,000 children, local kids were able to take part in workshops about the impact of clean air on lung health, before making a video on the subject (picture left and video below).
As part of the campaign, ELF presented its annual award to World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe, Zsuzsanna Jakab (below left), in recognition of WHO’s efforts towards improving the lung health of millions of people by providing outdoor air quality guidelines.
ELF and ERS will be taking the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign to the European Parliament in a few months’ time. Find out more at www.healthylungsforlife.org
