Glyphosate re-authorisation: NGOs join forces to demand legal action for fraud against Monsanto, BfR and EFSA

Earlier this month, Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN Europe) joined forces with five other environmental NGOs (Global 2000, PAN UK, Nature et Progrès Belgique and Wemove.EU, and Generations Futures, a HEAL member) to file a formal complaint against those responsible for the assessment of glyphosate in Europe. The organisations think that Monsanto, the German Risk Assessment Institute (BfR) and EFSA deny the cancer causing effects of this harmful chemical and request the relevant state attorneys to further investigate violations of statutory regulations and scientific standards.

“The flaws in the glyphosate risk assessment are unacceptable, unlawful, and dangerous. Thus we urge European member states to reject the re-approval of glyphosate on 7th March and take a stand to protect human health and the environment,” says Angeliki Lysimachou.

The vote on the re-approval of glyphosate on 7 March was postponed to a later date.
