PAN Europe: new report on industry lobbing
The report states that the main strategy uncovered is to put industry-linked experts in strategic positions in expert panels of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
According to the report, 73 percent of WHO experts and 52 percent of EFSA experts have links with industry (and only a few are scientists performing research). PAN claims this strategy induced a massive delay in policy implementation.
Eight years after the EU mandated such risk assessments for pesticide residues in food, EFSA still fails to make progress, leaving consumers and citizens unprotected against the harms of mixtures of pesticides in food.In this report, PAN Europe also establishes recommendations for WHO and EFSA procedures.
