PAN Europe: The 8th Edition of Pesticide Action Week was a great success

Earlier this year Pesticide Action Week took place across the globe with many national and international organisations and 13 new partners this year. It was a great success confirming the importance of this topic on the public agenda, among journalists as well as political and economic decision-makers.

Nearly 1,000 events were organised this year, mostly in France but many across 16 countries across the world. 35 national and international partners including 13 new partners participated this year showing a growing interest in the topic. Hundreds of articles appeared in the local press and on the internet as well as on French national television.

Pesticide Action Week was an opportunity for many things including starting a postcard campaign ‘Pesticides Alert!’ to the Ministers of Agriculture and Health for a drastic reduction in use of pesticides and the protection of victims of the chemical industry. A call was published alerting 85 doctors from Limousin about the dangers of pesticides and an investigation was published concerning the potential exposure of endocrine disrupting pesticides in food and non-food to children and pregnant women.

A website was launched in France inviting everyone to show a pesticide-free area on a map in France www.zones-in-pesticides.fr More information about Pesticides Action Week is available here
