Joint letter on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive

On the 4 July, a coalition of environment and health NGOs sent a letter to MEPs and members of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee asking them to support the inclusion of all unconventional fossil fuels (UFF) activities in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive which is currently being reviewed by the European Parliament.

On 11 July, the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee of the European Parliament voted on the draft report by MEP Andrea Zanoni.

The Rapporteur has made a number of useful proposals aiming to adapt the EIA Directive to a number of new realities, which notably include the potential development of UFF activities in Europe, known for their serious environmental, health and climate impacts.

The coalition respectfully asked MEPs to support the Amendments that are outlined in the full letter here available in English and French
