HEAL has sent an open letter to the parties involved in coalition talks for a next German government, the CDU and CSU, FDP and Greens.

It reads: ‘we are noting with concern that to this point there is no agreement on climate action that will ensure that Germany sticks to its duties deriving from the Paris Agreement and its own goals for 2020 and beyond.’

The letter recommends
1. Phasing out coal by 2030
2. Ending subsidies for fossil fuels as well as setting a concrete date for this

HEAL underlined these arguments with key data on the connection between energy choices, climate change and health and ended with the ‘hope that the potential coalition partners prioritise the protection of the health of the German and European citizens and agree the necessary steps on climate action in a coalition contract’.
