Science has a crucial role to play in the implementation of the revised EU clean air law, according to a new briefing by the METEOR research cluster. The briefing showcases how the projects in this EU funded research cluster can help support policymakers in the design of clean air measures and help in evaluating those which are most beneficial to health.
HEAL has responded to a public consultation on the revision of the EU’s Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).
The IED covers approximately 50,000 industrial installations and is thus the key piece of legislation to drive down emissions from coal plants, refineries, iron and steel manufacturing, waste treatment and intensive livestock farming.
But the IED is so far not delivering on better health, and urgently needs to be updated to include the zero pollution ambition, and also requirements for CO2 emission cuts.
HEAL also supports a petition to ensure that the IED delivers on the Green Deal commitments.
